Sodexo announced employees' food and beverage preferences for 2022

Sodexo Advantage and Rewarding Services analyzed the Sodexo Restaurant Pass meal card expenditures of employees this year and announced the eating and drinking preferences of 2022. According to the study, which analyzed a wide range from changing user habits to price practices, there was an increase in the use of meal cards during lunch hours in 2022 compared to last year, while the average amount spent per meal reached 71 TL.

Türkiye’s Sodexo’s traditional “study “Food & Beverage Preferences and Expenditure Habits of Turkish Consumers”, which reveals the dynamics of the life of the consumers in Turkey, revealed interesting data on the food & beverage sector in 2022 as well. 
 
Average amount spent on a meal increased by 73 percent compared to 2021
According to the expenditures made by Sodexo users, Sarıyer was the place with the highest average meal in Istanbul. While the average amount spent for a meal in Sarıyer was 94 TL, Sarıyer was followed by Kadıköy and Kartal provinces respectively. The most affordable neighborhood in Istanbul was Bağcılar with 27 TL. Bağcılar was followed by Büyük Çamlıca and Bostancı respectively. The highest increase in expenditure compared to a year ago was realized in Kartal with 94 percent. The lowest rate of increase was in Arnavutköy’ with 36 percent. While the average amount spent on food in Arnavutköy’last year was 54 TL, this year it increased to 74 TL. 

With an average meal cost of 117 TL, Izmir’s city of Çeşme surpassed Istanbul’as the city with the highest average meal cost. The most affordable meal in Izmir was 29 TL in Otogaraj and Manavkuyu neighborhoods.

The province with the highest average price of 88 TL in Ankara was Etimesgut, which experienced a 92 percent price increase compared to the previous year. The most affordable meal was eaten in Beştepe district of Yenimahalle province with 43 TL. In Ankara, the lowest price increase until a year ago was 7 percent in Mamak province.

In 2022, when we look at the general Türkiye picture in Sodexo expenditures, the amount tried for an average meal increased by 73 percent to 71 TL. 
 
SodexoÖğle lunch meal card usage increased 
With remote working, eating hours had become flexible. During the pandemic period, while lunch expenditures were made between 13th00 and 14th00 hours, with the pandemic effect decreasing and the increase in the number of people going to the offices, the lunch hours shifted back to its old pattern and shifted to between 12th00-13th00 hours.
 
Food card usage increased in Sarıyer and Şişli, decreased in Beşiktaş
Location preferences for eating and drinking were similar to the pre-pandemic period as the pandemic effect decreased. The highest rate of increase compared to 2021 was experienced in Kocaeli – Dilovası province due to the effect of dönüshüon offices. In Istanbul, Sarıyer and Şişli provinces, where business centers are concentrated, were the provinces where the usage increased the most compared to the previous year, while Yenimahalle in Ankara ’Similarly, Yenimahalle in Yenimahalle and Balçova in Izmir were the provinces where the usage increased the most compared to the previous year. Compared to 2021, Beşiktaş was the province with the highest decrease, while Muğla – Marmaris and Antalya – Konyaaltı provinces were the provinces with the lowest increase compared to the previous year as the pandemic effect decreased.
 
SodexoRetail sector prefers Kebab, Service and IT sectors prefer Fast Food
According to the analysis, it was observed that Turkish shoppers preferred kebab the most as in previous years, followed by fast food and the per capita spending on kebab was 81 TL. According to the analysis, which also includes sector breakdowns, the sector that preferred kebab the most was the retail sector. According to the data, one out of every five people in the retail sector preferred kebab. While the service sector was the sector that preferred fast food the most, the consumers of this sector preferred to consume one out of every 3 meals as fast food. The finance and IT sectors also showed a spending habit close to that of the service sector.
